Szijjártó said that since 2015, Ukraine has adopted such legislative initiatives that reduced the rights of the Hungarian national minority. The Hungarian minister noted the law on national minorities, which the Council adopted in December 2023, but this was not enough for the Hungarian side.
“We ask to return to the Hungarian national minority all the rights that it had until 2015. I want to emphasize that Hungary is not asking for anything more,” Szijjártó said.
He added that the Hungarian side formulated 11 proposals to protect the rights of its national minority in Ukraine. Among them are the restoration of the status of the national school, the opportunity to again take the matriculation certificate in Hungarian and use Hungarian in the field of higher education, culture and public life.
Dmitry Kuleba said at a press conference that under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, a special commission will be created that will analyze Hungary’s proposal on the rights of national minorities.
