The Senate called on the US Treasury Department to do more for great technology companies, including Meta Platforms and Alphabet Inc, were seeking sanctions against “foreign adversaries”, blocking Russia and Iran.
RBC-Ukraine reported this in a post to Reuters.
Democratic Senator Mark Warner, The US Senate Intelligence Committee has written a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Ellen, noting that the Treasury Department is unable to “ensure continued sanctions on digital advertising markets.”
“American technology companies such as Alphabet, which is owned by Google, and Meta, which is owned by Facebook and Instagram, will continue to defy US sanctions rules,” Warner said.
It is clear that technology giants will continue to give advertising services organizations that have been subject to US sanctions and have deep ties to what they call “foreign adversaries,” including Russia and Iran.
Among the applications pointed out by the senator at the list, there was information from ZMI and a huge amount of information about 2023 about those that Google showed advertisements for Russian and Iranian companies that are under sanctions, and a pro-Russian Moldovan politician Ilan Shor vikorized Facebook advertising for what Mark Warner called “the activity of the malicious influx directly on the elections in Moldova.”
Having stipulated that elections will be held in rich countries, including the United States, it is important for the Ministry of Finance to ensure the completion of US sanction.
US sanctions against Russia
The US introduced sanctions against Russia in the lower spheres in response to the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. For example, the sanctions imposed by the region led to the fact that half of Russian exports of naphtha and naphtha products in 2023 went to China, while part of India grew in two years to 40%. Europe's share in oil exports from Russia fell tenfold to approximately 4-5% from approximately 40-45%.
Also, the United States imposed sanctions, which were caused by the destruction of the price structure due to the sale of Russian oil.
