Safety and security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine, including the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant “, containing a demand for Russia to immediately de-occupy the Zaporizhia NPP due to its failure to comply with the instructions of the governing bodies of the IAEA.
As stated on the Organization’s website, the resolution provides for the withdrawal of all military and other unauthorized personnel from the territory of the plant and the transfer of the Zaporozhye NPP under full control Ukrainian competent authorities capable of ensuring its security. The text also emphasizes the need to stop Russian aggression and the unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops from the entire territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
The document was supported by 99 UN member countries. 9 voted against, 60 abstained. The Russian representative hastened to say that the resolution “will not have any real consequences on the ground.”
