The funds for the UAV were raised by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who took part in the half marathon.
The “Lāčplesisi” drone is a collection of drones acquired thanks to a charity run run by the head of the department.
As “European Pravda” writes, in May, Minister Baiba Braže ran the 21-kilometer Riga Half Marathon, thus raising funds for UAVs for Ukraine. The sum of the donations received by politicians is 14 thousand euros.
For this, the ministry purchased drones of domestic Latvian production, which are called “Lacplesis” – in honor of the legendary military leader. Earlier, Ukraine had already received 300 Latvian UAVs free of charge.
The current batch of 100 drones will help strengthen the work of Ukrainian defenders near Kramatorsk.
- Latvia is one of the leaders of the drone coalition for Ukraine: the country promised to allocate 20 million euros for drones.
