The Verkhovna Rada will restrict the use of Telegram in accordance with the recommendation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech Yaroslav Yurchyshyn.

He reported that he received an order from the Verkhovna Rada apparatus with new provisions on the operation of Telegram in the local network of the Council.

What security measures is the apparatus taking on the recommendation of the National Coordination Center for Cyber ​​Security:

  • two-factor authentication and cancellation of contact synchronization are mandatory. It is also necessary to block access to a computer that is left unattended so that unauthorized persons cannot access the account;
  • prohibition of transfer of data used in work and official communications in Telegram;
  • prohibition of installing and using the Telegram client on official computers or personal computers used in official activities;
  • the messenger is blocked using technical and software tools, and requests for unauthorized attempts to connect to the service are recorded.

<p>According to Yurchyshyn, such security measures are “completely logical”, since there have already been examples when outsiders received data of government employees through Telegram, which was used on work devices. </p>
<p>As an example, he cited the situation with the fake channel of the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.</p>
<p>The order “minimizes the risks” and concerns specifically the employees of the Verkhovna Rada apparatus and does not restrict the use of the messenger in personal purposes.</p>
