He was found guilty of attempting to bribe the former chairman of the State Agency for Restoration Mustafa Nayem with cryptocurrency.
Andrey VAKS) sentenced people's deputy from “Servant of the People” Andrey Odarchenko to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property, the Anti-Corruption Action Center reports.
He was found guilty of attempting to bribe the former chairman of the State Agency for Reconstruction, Mustafa Nayem, with cryptocurrency (equivalent to $50,000).
Odarchenko's property was confiscated:
- Two apartments in Kharkov, 61 and 51 square meters in area
- A residential building near Kharkov, 100 square meters in area
- A residential building in Kharkov, 159 square meters in area
- Four plots of land
- Two non-residential buildings, 89 and 625 square meters in area
The court also applied special confiscation to 0.39 bitcoin and a cryptogamer. Material evidence (two iPhones) was confiscated in favor of the state.
It is noted that this is the first illegal benefit in the history of anti-corruption agencies that has been documented in cryptocurrency.
- Odarchenko was suspected last year of bribing a top official of the State Recovery Agency (Part 4 of Article 369). He offered a bribe so that money would be given from the Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression to repair the buildings of the university where he is the rector. The suspect managed to transfer part of the bribe in cryptocurrency.
- Another person involved in this case is MP Labaziuk (“For the Future”).
- The High Anti-Corruption Court assigned Odarchenko a preventive measure in the form of detention with an alternative of UAH 15 million in bail. The MP contributed this amount. The court ordered him to wear an electronic bracelet, but despite this, the internal affairs agencies did not put the bracelet on him.
- On September 18, it became known that Odarchenko had fled abroad. The next day, the VAKS put him on the international wanted list.
- In September, the VAKS arrested Odarchenko in absentia.
