Protest actions in Georgia
In the parliamentary elections in Georgia, which lasted 26 years with large-scale damage, the pro-Russian party “Georgian Dream” won alongside Irakli Kobakhidze. Vaughn gained 54% of the votes.
The President of the region, Salome Zurabishvili, and the opposition parties, who gained 8 to 11%, were hopeful of knowing the election results, voted the newly elected parliament illegitimate and called on the people go out to protest.
Initially, the rallies were few in number and did not grow out of contention with the security forces. However, the situation sharply worsened on November 28, when the formation of a new parliament on the basis of Prime Minister Kobakhidze having terminated the start of negotiations in 2028 before the entry of the country into EC.
Opposition leaders, parties and cross-border Georgians have begun large-scale protests in the center of Tbilisi with a clear focus on the decision.
Rallies have been held for the sixth day in the center of Georgia capital, as well as in Batumi, Kobuleti, Ozurgeti and other places of the region. In Tbilisi, every night, special forces brutally disperse people, use cork water cannons and slime gas, and trap protesters.
Through the forceful suppression of protests, the United States has slowed down its strategic partnership with Georgia and imposed sanctions, as well as visa restrictions, on the low Georgian government officials.
Sanctions on the Georgian government officials also spread on the low Baltic countries.
