This is a more secure version of the Starlink satellite internet.
Elon Musk's SpaceX has signed a contract with the US administration to expand Ukraine's access to the Starshield system, an improved and more secure version of Starlink.
According to Bloomberg, the agreement with the Pentagon provides that the 2,500 satellite internet stations already in our country will be able to connect to Starshield thanks to a signal that is harder to track, jam, or break than regular Starlink. Previously, only 500 terminals had access to Starshield.
Bloomberg notes that, although the purchase became known only now, the agreement was reached at the end of the summer – long before Donald Trump won the election and Elon Musk was appointed co-chairman of the new Department of Government Effectiveness.
The financial part of the contract is not disclosed, but it is known that $40 million was spent on connecting 500 stations at the time.
