Lubinets: Russian special services are trying to involve families of prisoners of war in intelligence against Ukraine

The ombudsman also says that the Russians are trying to use the failure to return Ukrainian prisoners of war home to force people to “go to the Maidan.”

<p>Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets reported that Russian special services are trying to involve families of prisoners of war in intelligence against Ukraine. </p>
<p>He spoke about this in an interview with “Ukrainian Truth.” </p>
<p>Lubinets says that the Russians have a great desire to involve the families of prisoners of war in destabilizing the situation in Ukraine.</p>
<p>“These are certainly not isolated cases, although I would not say that this is critical. This (pressure, – ed.) is carried out by the intelligence agencies of the Russian Federation,” the ombudsman said.</p>
<p>According to him, in the imagination of the Russians, Ukrainians can constantly and through something go to the Maidan, so they are trying to use the failure to return Ukrainian prisoners of war home for this.</p>

“Unfortunately, there are cases when individual families directly contacted the authorities of the Russian Federation: they were first given some information, sent some photo, given the opportunity to talk to the prisoner, and then given instructions: “We need to do this, this, third…”. And, unfortunately, there are isolated cases when they tried to involve the families of prisoners of war in intelligence activities for the benefit of the Russian Federation,” Lubinets said.
