President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky by his decree introduced a new holiday in Ukraine – Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity.
In the document, the head of state argues the need to celebrate it by “strengthening the unity and harmony of the Ukrainian people, affirming the Ukrainian national and civic identity, promoting the free development of the cultural diversity of indigenous peoples and national minorities of Ukraine, and demonstrating respect for their contribution to upholding the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”
Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity in Ukraine will be May 21 – in the UN it is officially World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
- On Friday, the President met with representatives of indigenous peoples and national minorities and promised to promote recognition of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people as an official representative body.
