Kyiv University named after Shevchenko has decided to terminate the contract with Professor Vasilenko early

The professor's behavior contradicted the basic ethical principles of the university community and caused reputational damage to KNU.

<p>The management of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (KNU) has decided to early terminate the contract with Nikita Vasylenko, professor of the Department of Print Media and History of Journalism of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism. </p>
<p>This was reported by the press service of the Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.</p>
<p>“This decision is based on the findings of the Academic Council of the URI of Journalism, the Standing Committee of the Academic Council of the University on Ethics and other collegial bodies that established the professor's violation of the norms of the Ethical Code of the University Community, the terms of the contract and general ethical standards,” the statement says.</p>
<p>The KNU recalled that the basis for this was the systemic violations recorded in the conclusions of the department, the Academic Council of the NNI of Journalism, the Standing Committee of the Academic Council of the University on Ethics and the order of the rector. </p>

<p>It is also noted that the professor's behavior contradicted the basic ethical principles of the university community and caused reputational damage to the KNU.</p>

<p> Vasilenko gave an interview to Oleksandr Shelest, in which he expressed the opinion that a contingent of foreign peacekeepers in Ukraine could improve the demographic situation. </p>

<p>According to the professor, peacekeepers who “have not been tested by the front, but were raised on good European food” will be of interest to “thousands of hungry Ukrainian women” who “did not have time to leave, or whose men were killed or maimed.”</p>

<li>The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets wrote letters to the Ministry of Education on the professor of the Kyiv National University and journalist Nikita Vasilenko.</li>
