Justice Ministry Resumes Operation of Three Registries After Cyberattack

The Justice Ministry has resumed operation of three registries after a cyberattack

the operation of the first three notarial registries suspended as a result of a large-scale cyberattack on Russia.

This was reported by the press service of the Justice Ministry.

“After a large-scale cyberattack on Russians, the Unified Register of Powers of Attorney, the Inheritance Register, and the Unified Register of Special Forms of Notarial Documents have resumed operation,” the report says.

From now on, notaries can register powers of attorney, wills and inheritance cases, as well as check special forms.

It is noted that all notarial acts that were performed in the absence of access to the registers will be entered within 5 working days.

The Ministry of Justice also reported that enhanced cybersecurity measures have already been implemented. Work is ongoing to restore other registers.

What is known about the cyberattack on the registers

  • Late in the evening of December 19, it became known about the largest cyberattack on the state registers of Ukraine. It was noted that it may take 2 weeks to resume work.
  • On December 20, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna reported that the work of all state registers administered by the Ministry of Justice was suspended. In particular, registration of civil status acts is carried out using paper media.
  • By stopping the work of state registers, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the term of current reservations from mobilization.
