State Tax Service representative says military exercises announced by Belarus do not pose a threat to Ukraine

The military exercises that Belarus plans to hold until the end of January do not pose a threat to Ukraine, State Tax Service representative Andrei Demchenko said during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center.

“These exercises that were announced, which should continue until the end of January, do not pose a threat to us. Because Belarus, in addition to constantly conducting various types of training on its territory, and we also remember previous years, when such exercises took place with units of the Russian army, I will add that at the moment there are no Russian troops, a strike group in sufficient numbers on the territory of Belarus, because the terrorist country gradually withdrew them to its territory, and did not bring in new ones as part of the rotation. Therefore, now Belarus continues to escalate the situation, playing along with Russia,” Demchenko said.

According to him, the presence of Russian troops during military exercises in Belarus is not noted, just as the holding of exercises in the immediate vicinity of the Ukrainian border is not noted.

“We do not note the presence of Russian troops there, and this training with territorial defense units, reservists was planned to be involved. But in fact, they are not in the immediate vicinity of our border. I am not even sure that any equipment will be used for these exercises. This is a demonstration by Belarus that they are strengthening their defense capabilities, since it is Ukraine that poses a threat to them. And they will continue to support such rhetoric,” Demchenko added.

  • In mid-December, Belarus tested a new missile for the Buk-MB2 air defense system near the border with Ukraine. That is why an air raid alarm was declared in northern Ukraine.
