In the Grodno region of Belarus, trenches for infantry and equipment have appeared on the edge of the Gozhsky military training ground, the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty reports.

These trenches are located 6 kilometers from the Belarusian-Lithuanian border and may be part of the so-called “resistance node” that the Belarusian Defense Ministry promised to build a year ago.

The territory where the trenches are located has a nature conservation status and belongs to the Grodno Pushcha Republican Landscape Reserve.

On October 6, 2023, self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that several fortified “resistance nodes” would be built on the borders. At that time, the military demonstrated a similar facility in the Kobrin district near the border with Poland. And before that, the authorities created a similar facility in the Gomel district.

Several new fortifications near Grodno are clearly visible in a satellite image taken by Planet Labs satellites on December 14, 2024 near the northwestern part of the training ground. For example, on the eastern side of the road leading to the Privalka border crossing, the military dug a huge trench at the end of November 2024. Its length is 340 meters, its width is from 5 to 7 meters, which is enough for a tank to freely pass through the trench.
