Today, Ukraine does not have systems to intercept the Russian ballistic missile “Oreshnik”, but work continues on obtaining them and creating our own.

This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky in an interview with military correspondent Andrey Tsaplienko.

He emphasized that “Oreshnik” is a threat and currently only a few air defense systems can intercept it. Ukraine does not yet have such systems for shooting down this missile.

“But we must do everything to ensure that they appear,” Syrsky said.

According to him, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and industry are considering various ways to combat or reduce the effectiveness of these weapons. We are talking about creating “our own air defense system, which would not just be an air defense system, but also an anti-missile system.”

“This encourages us to actively negotiate with our allies to obtain such a system. And, of course, this should encourage us to create a modern missile system that could be a deterrent against the use of such weapons by the Russians,” the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized.

However, in December, Defense Express analysts published a photo of the shell fragments, which show the serial number and production date of one of the Oreshnik components – April 12, 2017.
