Former Polish Prime Minister and Vice President of the Law and Justice Party, Mateusz Morawiecki, found himself at the center of a curious situation during his visit to Washington. The politician, who arrived at Donald Trump's pre-inauguration rally at the Capital One Arena, tried to convince security to let him into the event using his Wikipedia page. A video shared by Ukrainian-American journalist Oliyaie Scootercaster shows Morawiecki trying to convince representatives of the US National Guard to let him into the event. He was showing a Wikipedia page on his phone, which listed his name, position, and achievements. However, this method did not work – the guards remained adamant.

The case quickly gained publicity on social networks and caused a wave of discussion. Some commentators called it a “shameful situation” for the Polish politician. Social media users joked that Wikipedia had now become a universal document for confirming identity.
“He conducted foreign policy so effectively that now you have to show Wikipedia to be recognized,” one Twitter user quipped. Another noted: “They don’t even want to show ‘Pinocchio’ there.”
