January 29: what holiday is today and the main events of this day

January 29 in the church calendar commemorates the transfer of the relics of the holy martyr Ignatius the God-bearer, writes IZ. Ignatius was one of the first fathers of the Church, known for his devotion to the faith. In 107, he was martyred for his Christian beliefs. After his death, his relics were transferred from Rome to Antioch, which was an important event for the early Church. In 637, the relics were returned to Rome, where they are still kept today.

In folk tradition, this day was associated with weather signs. If the moon had a red tint, strong winds were expected. The noise in the forest indicated the approaching thaw, and the curved smoke indicated warming. During this period, people believed in the activity of evil spirits, so they avoided walks after sunset.

January 29 is also celebrated as the Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of Kruty. In 1918, students and young soldiers stood up to defend Kyiv from the Bolshevik army at the Kruty station. This event became a symbol of the heroism and self-sacrifice of young people in the fight for Ukraine's independence. Despite the military defeat, the battle near Kruty went down in history as an outstanding example of patriotism.

In addition, the world today celebrates the International Day of Mobilization against the Threat of Nuclear War. This day reminds us of the danger of nuclear weapons and calls for global disarmament. Campaigns dedicated to this day are aimed at raising awareness about the consequences of nuclear war for humanity and the environment.
