The US suspended the Uniting for Ukraine program due to Donald Trump's decree

The US Citizenship and Immigration Service has temporarily stopped accepting applications for the Uniting for Ukraine program, which provides asylum to Ukrainian refugees, writes IZ with reference to the USCIS website. This decision was made against the backdrop of President Donald Trump's executive order restricting immigration and vetting foreign aid. As part of the executive order “On Protecting Our Borders,” all applications submitted to this program will undergo additional vetting.

The Uniting for Ukraine program allowed Ukrainians to receive temporary humanitarian asylum in the United States for a period of two years. Program participants had the right to work, study, health insurance, and other social benefits. All new applications are currently suspended until the analysis of already submitted documents is completed.

Donald Trump also previously suspended the allocation of foreign aid for 90 days, explaining this by the need to check programs for compliance with the new policy. Despite this, the Ukrainian authorities assure that military aid to Ukraine continues to flow without changes.

At the same time, the United States suspended funding for projects supported by the United States Agency for International Development. This decision affected social initiatives and economic programs implemented in Ukraine and became another step within the framework of the new US immigration policy.

We recall that earlier we reported that the United States temporarily suspended programs for the reception of migrants, including Ukrainians.
