Border crossings in Poland have become critical infrastructure

The Polish government has decided to prevent future blockades of the border with Ukraine by recognizing border crossing points as part of critical infrastructure, writes the IZ website with reference to Rzeczpospolita. This decision was made against the backdrop of recent protests by Polish farmers, who temporarily stopped movement across the border, demanding changes in EU trade policy. The corresponding statement was made by the Chairman of the Council for Cooperation with Ukraine and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Sejm, Pawel Kowal.

According to him, the new government resolution will reduce the risks of further protests that paralyze the work of border crossing points. The Polish government has expanded the list of critical infrastructure, which will complicate the organization of blockades and limit the ability of protesters to influence international transit. However, Polish farmers and their European colleagues will continue to look for new ways to express their demands that will put maximum pressure on the authorities.

It was previously reported that the blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border has been temporarily suspended, but may resume with renewed vigor. One of the leaders of the protests, Roman Kondrow, stated that the farmers are ready for larger-scale actions if their demands are not met. After a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture of Poland, Czesław Sekerski, the parties agreed to further discuss the problems of farmers and their demands to the government.

Meanwhile, the situation on the border remains tense, as a final compromise has not yet been reached. The Polish authorities are seeking to reduce the risks of blocking strategically important facilities, but the protesters insist on radical changes in the European Union's policy towards the agricultural sector.

We recall that we previously reported that the United States suspended the Uniting for Ukraine program due to Donald Trump's decree.
