She made a number of calls to humanitarian operators.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Matthias Schmale and advocate Iryna Vereshchuk said after a meeting with UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Matthias Schmale that it is necessary to “get used to working in conditions where the war continues longer and less available international funding is available.”
Vereshchuk appealed to non-governmental organizations implementing humanitarian projects using funds from international partners with a call this year to urgently review priorities, projects, budgets, teams and work algorithms.
“We need to quickly redistribute financial and human resources from less important areas to more important ones, from less effective projects to more effective ones. We also need to significantly increase the speed of project implementation by simplifying procedures and using stricter deadlines,” the deputy head of the OPU emphasized. “citizens receive maximum benefit from the humanitarian response to international funds.”
The deputy head of the OPU added that they agreed with Shmale to strengthen coordination of the authorities with donors and humanitarian operators.
- Last year, Shmale said that the United Nations was receiving fewer and fewer resources to provide humanitarian aid. Therefore, it will be difficult to provide support to Ukraine over time.
- In January, it became known that the UN plans to attract more than $2.6 billion to help Ukrainians in 2025. This is envisaged by the UN Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for Ukraine.
