Most EU countries are against allocating $20 billion to Ukraine

The largest countries of the European Union do not support the idea of providing Ukraine with a $20 billion aid package. As IZ reports with reference to Suspilne, only 10-12 member states of the Alliance, mainly from Northern, Eastern Europe and the Baltics, are “in favor” of this proposal. The top EU diplomat noted that these countries consider the initiative important, but not all are ready to support it financially.

Among the opponents of the allocation of funds are Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Belgium. They claim that they already provide significant assistance to Ukraine and have their own plans for budget spending. Representatives of these states emphasize that the allocation of additional funds requires careful discussion with all members of the European Union. The proposal is supported by the Baltic and Eastern European countries, which call on the EU to increase assistance to Ukraine.

The top EU diplomat also stressed that the final decision depends on negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union. He noted that support for Ukraine remains an important issue for the EU, but the opinion of all member states must be taken into account. The situation with funding will be discussed at future meetings of European Union leaders, where they will decide how to provide support to Kyiv.
