Church holiday March 9

According to the church calendar, today is dedicated to the memory of the 40 martyrs of Sebaste. These were Christian warriors who lived in the 4th century and refused to renounce their faith. According to legend, they were part of the Roman legion in Sebaste (modern Sivas, Turkey). For refusing to renounce Christianity, they were sentenced to freezing on the ice. One of the warriors could not stand the torture and left his comrades, but his place was taken by another, inspired by their devotion. So their number remained unchanged – 40 martyrs.

March 9 is Taras Shevchenko's birthday in Ukraine. The great Kobzar was born in 1814 in the village of Moryntsi, now Cherkasy Oblast. Shevchenko is one of the most prominent Ukrainian poets, a thinker, and a symbol of the struggle for Ukraine's independence. His work, in particular the collection “Kobzar,” is the spiritual foundation of the Ukrainian nation.

March 9 is also International DJ Day. This holiday was launched in 2002 on the initiative of the World DJ Fund and the Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy organization.
