Romania did not register the controversial and extreme right-wing party leader Kelin Georgescu to participate in the presidential elections in the country. This can be caused by political upheaval in the country.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine via Bloomberg.
Last week, a representative of the Bucharest Election Bureau stated that Georgescu’s candidacy was declared invalid. Zokrem, the bureau withdrew over 1000 savings from politicians who were more closely associated with their anti-democratic and extremist positions. With this decision, it is still possible to be discredited in the Constitutional Court.
As Bloomberg writes, the decision to exclude Georgescu from the presidential race on May 4 will likely strengthen anti-system sentiment in Romania and harm the extreme right. The survey showed that if Georgescu had been running around, he would have collected 40-45 hundred votes in the first round, which would have given him a real chance of becoming the president of Romania.
This lateralism could also increase the chances of the main, pro-European candidate winning the election, and could also harm the US government. Bloomberg recently wrote that American officials were calling on Bucharest to allow Georgescu to run the show.
“We must keep an eye on Rumania and how corrupt the system is,” the politician said on Friday, indicating that he cannot be named on the list of candidates for the elections.
It is unclear whether he is supporting any of the other candidates.
Bloomberg predicts that after Georgescu was dissatisfied with the change in the first round of the presidential election last year, the Supreme Court annulled the results of the vote, citing suspicions that Russia was involved in his campaign. This, in its turn, caused an extreme political crisis.
