Austria continues payments to Ukrainian refugees

The National Council of Austria has decided to extend social benefits for Ukrainian refugees until October 31, 2025. As reported by IZ with reference to the country's government website, the government has also extended health insurance for Ukrainian citizens who have found refuge in the country until May 31, 2025. The threshold for additional earnings for recipients of benefits has also been increased from 8,100 to 8,600 euros per year.

The Austrian government explained the decision by the need to support Ukrainian citizens who remain in the country due to the long-running war. Initially, the possibility of extending payments until March 2026 was considered, but in the end, a decision was made to shorten the period to October 2025. At the same time, health insurance was extended only until May of the following year.

Austrian Minister of Social Policy Corinna Schumann noted that without this decision, more than 26,000 Ukrainian refugees, including almost 10,000 children, could lose access to health insurance. The continuation of financial support will depend on further circumstances in the country and the situation in Ukraine.

Recall, we previously wrote that working pensioners will receive a recalculation of payments in April.
