Starlink could replace Europe thanks to deal with India

SpaceX has signed an agreement with Indian telecom operator Airtel to launch its Starlink satellite internet in the country. As IZ reports with reference to Airtel's announcement, this decision opens up a new market for Elon Musk's company, especially in the context of a possible termination of cooperation with some European countries and Canada. The launch of services still depends on obtaining government permits, but Airtel already has the necessary license.

A potential entry into the Indian market could be a big step for Starlink, as the country is home to more than 1.4 billion people and has more than 950 million internet users. The Indian government has passed a bill that will promote the development of satellite technology, and the collaboration with SpaceX could allow it to compete with the largest local telecommunications operators.

If all the permitting procedures are successful, Starlink will start selling its equipment through Airtel's network and will also expand coverage by using a partner's infrastructure. If successful, the move will help Musk's company reduce its dependence on European customers, who have recently reconsidered cooperation with Starlink due to political disputes.
