American businessman and co-founder of the streaming platform Netflix, Reed Hastings, donated $2 million to help Ukraine. The funds were received by the charitable organization “White Stork”, which is engaged in the supply of military and humanitarian aid.
As IZ reports with reference to Deadline, the White Stork Foundation is headed by American veterans, and in Ukraine it operates under the name of the Leleka-Ukraine Foundation. The organization has been assisting Ukrainian military and medical personnel since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.
It is noted that the $2 million received will be used to purchase drone jamming systems, which are critical to protecting the Ukrainian military from drone attacks. One such system costs up to $6,000.
The organization will also continue to provide first aid. White Stork is the largest charitable supplier of individual first aid kits in Ukraine — more than 120,000 units have been donated since the beginning of the war. In addition, the foundation provides the military with the necessary equipment:
- demining equipment;
- bulletproof blankets;
- trench shovels;
- bulletproof vests.
The head of the organization, US Marine Corps veteran William McNulty, emphasized the importance of this assistance for the defenders of Ukraine.
“The men and women fighting in Ukraine are not professional soldiers. They are civilians who were drawn into this war for the survival of the country. As veterans, we have seen the horrors of war and know how to deliver aid directly to the front lines. Reed’s gift in support of Ukraine means their survival,” he noted.
This is not Hastings' first contribution to Ukraine. In 2022, he donated $1 million to the Razom for Ukraine charity, which also provides assistance to military and civilian populations.
Donations from Western philanthropists play a significant role in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities, helping doctors and military personnel do their jobs more effectively.
