Mass protests against the current government are ongoing in Belgrade, with thousands of people taking part. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić addressed the citizens, stressing that the situation is under control. As reported by IZ, citing a speech by Aleksandar Vučić, he assured that he does not plan to resign and condemned the dissemination of information about the use of special equipment by security forces.
Official figures put the number of protesters at 107,000, but the opposition claims a million took to the streets. Police said 22 people had been arrested on charges of assaulting police. Vucic called the protests “riots” and said those responsible for the provocations would be held accountable.
The situation in the country remains tense, and the mass protests have become the largest in recent years. The president said that the protesters have no chance of changing power through a revolutionary path, and elections remain the only democratic way to bring about political change in the country.
