Ukraine is considering raising gas tariffs to 9.5-10 hryvnia per cubic meter, said Oleg Popenko, head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities. As IZ reports with reference to UNIAN, this could happen as early as this summer, as Ukraine will be forced to purchase from 3 to 4 billion cubic meters of gas at high prices on the international market.
“We can expect an increase in tariffs to 9.5-10 hryvnias per cubic meter. This is as a result of high prices for gas, which we will have to buy,” Popenko noted. Today, the tariff is 7.96 hryvnias per cubic meter,” the expert noted, referring to data from the advisor to the Prime Minister, Yuriy Boyko.
He also added that the increase in gas tariffs in the summer period will not have a significant impact on Ukrainians, since at this time gas consumption is minimal. The peak of consumption falls on the heating season, when households consume up to 500 cubic meters of gas. However, the issue of increasing tariffs is currently being studied.
In addition, Popenko emphasized that the decision to increase tariffs also depends on possible elections during this period, since such a decision could negatively affect the reputation of the authorities if they are held.
