Since the beginning of his presidency, Donald Trump has repeatedly stated his desire to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin has previously confirmed that it is preparing for such talks, but there is no official date yet.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented on the possibility of such a meeting. According to the American official, it is too early to discuss specific dates, as the parties have yet to make significant progress in indirect talks at the technical level. IZ reports this with reference to Barron's.
“ There’s a lot of work ahead with both sides, especially with Russia, which we haven’t spoken to in years ,” Marco Rubio told reporters. When asked how long it would take to see results, the official said, “ I just can’t put a time frame on it because it’s not up to us .”
Marco Rubio also noted that the Donald Trump administration will soon hold special consultations dedicated to discussing the results of the talks in Saudi Arabia. The meeting in Riyadh, which lasted from March 23 to 25, was aimed at reaching agreements between the American delegation and representatives of Russia and Ukraine.
As a result of these negotiations, an agreement was reached to ban attacks on the energy infrastructure of both countries. In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of a ceasefire in the Black Sea. Russia put forward a number of its own demands, in particular, regarding the easing of certain sanctions by the European Union.
At the same time, Europe has already made it clear that sanctions against the aggressor country will not be lifted.
