Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND) has published a disturbing report about Russia's preparations for a large-scale armed conflict against NATO. According to the German newspaper Tagesschau, the report notes that the Kremlin views relations with the West not simply as a political competition, but as a systemic conflict that can be resolved by force, writes IZ.
According to BND analysts, Russia may complete preparations for a large-scale war by 2030. This involves not only the modernization of the army, but also the targeted accumulation of weapons, the restoration of the production capacities of the military-industrial complex, and the intensive militarization of society.
German intelligence officials note that despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, Russia has maintained the combat capability of its aerospace forces and navy. If hostilities against Ukraine end, Moscow will be able to quickly transfer its troops to the borders with the Baltic states.
In parallel, Lithuania is also warning of a potential danger. According to Lithuanian intelligence, although Russia is not yet capable of attacking the entire Alliance, it can “test” its strength — for example, carry out aggression against individual NATO member states to analyze how the bloc will react.
The BND notes that Russia is actively replenishing its losses at the front, and the volume of weapons production at the enterprises of the defense-industrial complex already exceeds the needs of the current war. The Kremlin is not only restoring stocks, but also building up potential for the future.
According to German experts, by 2025 Russia's military budget will grow to almost 120 billion euros, which will be 6% of the country's GDP. At the same time, Moscow plans to increase the size of its armed forces to 1.5 million people. Another alarming indicator is Russia's intention to increase the amount of equipment and weapons on its borders with NATO by 30–50%.
Thus, according to German intelligence, the West should prepare for a potential escalation in relations with Russia, which not only has not abandoned its expansionist plans, but is also purposefully preparing for them.
