The church holiday of March 31 in the new style is dedicated to the memory of the Monk Hypatius, an ascetic and healer from the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, writes IZ. On this day, believers remember his feat in prayer, charity, and care for the sick. The Monk Hypatius lived in the 14th century, led an ascetic life, consuming only bread and water, and acquired the gift of healing. His relics are still in the Far Caves of the Lavra, and they are believed to have healing power.

According to the Julian calendar, today is the feast day of Saint Cyril, Archbishop of Jerusalem. Both saints left a deep mark on the spiritual life of the Orthodox Church, so the day is filled with a special atmosphere of prayer.
Folk signs and traditions on March 31
Folk wisdom for this day is related to the weather:
• Sunny weather – to a warm summer;
• Rain in the morning – there will also be a lot of precipitation in the summer;
• Lightning on April 13 — to drought;
• Flocks of migratory birds — until early spring.
On this day, villagers traditionally whitewash trees and tidy up the garden, as this is a symbol of purification and care for a good harvest.
What not to do on March 31
On this day, as in general during Great Lent, it is forbidden to:
• Conflict, swear and insult others;
• Be jealous, gossip, or refuse help;
• Breaking the fast — believers are advised to observe strict abstinence from food, mainly dry food.
According to folk signs, you should not:
• Leave a mess in the house;
• Keep dirty dishes in the sink;
• To give or borrow.
What is allowed and even welcomed
On the day of Saint Hypatius, believers pray for healing from physical and mental ailments, for the gift of motherhood and for the health of their relatives. Women turn to the saint with a request for sufficient breast milk. It is also customary on this day to light a bonfire and burn old things – such a ritual is considered a way of cleansing from all negativity and diseases.
