On April 1, 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved amendments to the Road Traffic Rules that allow drivers of motorcycles and mopeds to move in lanes designated for public transport, IZ writes with reference to Online UA.
The decision is aimed at improving the situation on the roads of large cities and increasing the safety of road users. It is known that such an initiative is part of the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities to harmonize national legislation with European standards.
The changes were announced by Oleksiy Biloshitsky, First Deputy Head of the Department of Patrol Police of Ukraine. According to him, now drivers of motorcycles (except those with side trailers, motorized strollers and three-wheeled vehicles) and moped drivers will have the right to move in lanes for route vehicles. These changes were made to paragraph 2.16 of the Road Traffic Rules.
This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and is designed to facilitate the movement of two-wheeled vehicles in traffic jams. According to representatives of the patrol police, the main goals of these changes are to improve road safety, as well as reduce traffic jams in large cities, where motorcycles and mopeds will now be able to move more freely.
