According to the new Julian church calendar , on this day believers commemorate Saint Eutychius of Constantinople, Saint Mary of Egypt, and Saint Methodius of Moravia. According to the Julian style (old calendar), Saint Zachary of the Caves is commemorated.
Professional holiday in Ukraine
In Ukraine, Geologist's Day is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of April – a professional holiday for specialists who explore the earth's crust, study mineral deposits, and participate in the creation of geographical maps. The holiday was established in 1995.
Among the notable Ukrainians born on this day are astronomer Oleksandr Orlov, poet Stepan Kryvenky, bandurist and bard Eduard Drach, singer Iryna Bilyk, and musician Oleksandr Sydorenko.
International holidays April 6
At the global level, April 6 is the International Day of Sport for Peace and Development, established by the UN. Its aim is to highlight the unifying power of sport for society.

In the folk calendar, this day is called Eutychius Tychius. It was believed that it was from April 6 that the active melting of snow began, and with it – preparation for spring work in the garden. In ancient times, homeowners whitewashed trees, planted the first seedlings, and fishermen waited for a good perch bite.
On this occasion, it is customary to recite prayers for the health of oneself and loved ones.
What can't be done today?
According to popular prohibitions, on April 6th you should avoid:
- damage to trees (cutting, breaking branches),
- pollution of nature,
- lies – it is believed that what is said falsely will definitely be revealed.
Folk signs of the day
- the cold snap heralds a continuation of frost for a week;
- morning fog – to prolonged rains;
- calm weather is a sign that it is time to sow grains and legumes;
- The appearance of swallows means stable warming.
