Today, the Russian Federation (RF) no longer has any great desire to invade Iran. Moscow's position as a mediator between the United States and Iran is a low risk for America.
John Caves, a senior scientist at the Wisconsin Project for Control of Nuclear Developments, spoke about this in the materials of RBC-Ukraine “Nuclear Race 2.0: How Putin and Trump are roaming the world until a new escalation.”
According to the words of the RBC-Ukraine spivs in Ukrainian rule, the United States has recently begun to involve the Ukrainian and Iranian cases in contacts with Russia. The idea transfers possible actions from the side of Washington to Ukraine in exchange for the pressure of Russia on Iran and the nuclear program. Moscow, in its own way, supported a similar scenario.
“It seems that Russia at the moment does not have great desire to join Iran. It is not the main economic partner for Iran and is unlikely to become such, since the economies of the two countries are not mutually consistent from the point of view trade: grievances are placed on energy exports,” Caves said.
The expert added that Russia could expand the sale of weapons to Iran in exchange for Tehran's independence from the nuclear war, but it was unclear how the Iranian side would be willing to do so.
Caves, noting that Moscow's presence in the mediator's capacity is useful for low-risk states, any information that must be received through Russia will undoubtedly be filtered to serve the Russians interests.
In his words, Moscow could promote expanded sales of nuclear weapons to Iran in exchange for a nuclear-armed Iran, but it is not clear what Tehran will do.
Trump threatens Iran
Recently, the head of the White House, Donald Trump, threatened to bomb Iran because Tehran did not agree to a nuclear deal with Washington. The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has confirmed that the country's armed forces have been brought to the forefront of combat readiness.
At the beginning of the week, it became clear that the United States was preparing for a major confrontation at the Close Meeting in the context of the confrontation with Iran.
