Failure to follow the monitoring procedures resulted in a total of 7.2 tons of muddy waste, which caused significant harm to the marine environment.
The senior lieutenant of the captain of the foreign vessel was informed in absentia of the suspicion of the fact of obstruction of the sea between the internal sea waters of Ukraine by unstable rivers, reports the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, at the beginning of the year 2024, in the waters of the seaport “Pivdenny”, under the hour of dismantling of a foreign vessel, the palm oil plant became uncontrolled – a river that is unsafe for the marine environment.
Another round of palm oil overboard was completed while the excess oil was being pumped from the bow main tanks to the offshore tanks.
Failure to properly establish monitoring procedures, including checking the water supply system and controlling possessions, resulted in a flow of 7.2 tons of pollutant, causing significant harm to the marine environment.
Such actions were violated due to the 1973 International Convention for the Prevention of Strands in Ships.
As a result, the state's sea pollution caused damage to the amount of over 2 million US dollars.
The prosecutors also went to the Gospodarsky court of the Odessa region, calling in the interests of the state to the court about the reduction of tax revenues due to the violation of legislation on the protection of excessive natural resources.
