Court documents released after his death show that Payne died intestate. His net worth was estimated at £24.3 million. Under UK inheritance law, when no will is present, the estate passes to the closest living relatives. In this case, the main beneficiary is his eight-year-old son Bear, whom he had with former partner Cheryl Tweedy.
Cheryl Tweedy and music lawyer Richard Mark Bray were appointed as administrators of Payne’s estate. The inheritance is expected to be placed in a trust fund for Bear until he reaches legal adulthood.
At the time of his death, Payne owned several companies, including Hampton Music Ltd, Hampton Publishing Ltd, Hampton Records Ltd, and Long Play Touring LLP. He also held shares in joint ventures with other One Direction members. His business interests included real estate in both the UK and the US.
