President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Anatoliy Kryvonozhko as the Commander of the Air Force, which had been without leadership for nearly a year, reports Baltimore Chronicle, with reference to BBC.
The decree on the appointment was published on the official website of the president. In late August of the previous year, Zelensky, as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, dismissed Mykola Oleshchuk, the 52-year-old Commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The official reasons for his dismissal were not disclosed, but it occurred after Oleshchuk made a public comment on the tragic death of pilot Oleksiy Mesya and the loss of an F-16 fighter jet. The incident took place on August 26, during a massive Russian attack, when the F-16 crashed and the pilot died.
