On the night of this Saturday, February 17th, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky, gave an order for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Avdiivka in the Donetsk region to certain remote positions, in order to prevent encirclement and save the lives of the defenders, and It has now become known how such a redeployment will affect the current combat situation.

About the fact that Putin’s army, apparently, will experience significant difficulties when trying to advance west of the specified city, that is, closer to the previously prepared positions to which the Ukrainian Armed Forces have withdrawn, writes NBN, citing at “Institute for the Study of War” (ISW).
According to ISW analysts, Putin’s army may again suffer colossal losses if it decides to attack the defenders’ positions described above head-on, ignoring the open terrain and the high concentration of Ukrainian Armed Forces units at the new location.
In addition, the “second army of the world” seems to be seeking to complicate or even prevent the exit of Ukrainian troops from the city, hoping to inflict operational damage on the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area, since the capture of Avdiivka will not in itself bring tangible advantages or opportunities for subsequent enemy offensives.
Also, the Institute for the Study of War believes that the Ukrainian army will probably have to carry out counterattacks to ensure an orderly withdrawal of its units from Avdiivka and, in some way, stabilize the front line.
Earlier, we wrote about the fact that ISW assessed the ability of Putin’s army to “blitzkrieg”, using Avdievka as an example.
