The Kiev International Institute of Sociology has found out how the attitude of Ukrainian citizens to censorship on the Internet has changed over two years of a full-scale war. The expert explained the reasons for the corresponding survey results.

The results of a KIIS opinion poll in February 2024 showed that 49% of respondents believe that the state’s attempts to control information on Internet resources will lead to restrictions on the rights and freedoms of Ukrainians.
At the same time, 44% of respondents continue to support government censorship on news sites, social networks and instant messengers to strengthen Ukraine’s defense from the enemy, NBN reports.
In February 2022, 60% of citizens advocated state control of information in Internet sources, 30% did not share their opinion.
Deputy Director of KIIS Anton Grushetsky explained the decrease in the number of supporters of censorship on the Internet as a consequence of the decrease in Ukrainians’ trust in the authorities. Citizens may perceive the state’s attempts to control information on social networks and the media as its intention to muffle the voices of critics of the country’s leadership.
Earlier, KIIS announced a decrease in Ukrainians’ trust in the national telethon.
