The speaker of the German government said that there is nothing new in the words of Putin’s press secretary – Moscow has long been targeting the capitals of European states, writes “ NBN” with reference to Ukrinform.
The official believes that the relevant statements should be taken seriously. He added that it is not yet possible to discuss disarmament initiatives with the Russian authorities, because the terrorist state is behaving much more aggressively towards its neighbors than before.
Gebestreit explained that Washington’s decision to place American long-range weapons on German territory is associated with a change in the security situation.
The representative of Berlin recalled that the Russian Federation withdrew from the INF Treaty several years ago, therefore security experts consider it necessary to have an American non-nuclear deterrence component in the center of Europe, in particular on German territory, while European states will develop their own weapons.
Earlier, the German Foreign Ministry stated that the Russian Federation will remain the biggest threat to European security.
