Euronews reports that the Hungarian leadership is blocking the approval of a 35 billion euro loan from the EU to Ukraine. As it turned out, Budapest is waiting for the results of the US elections, which will take place on November 5, NBN reports.
The article says that the Hungarian authorities have confirmed the blocking of funds that the European Commission proposed to allocate to support the war-damaged Ukrainian economy until a new president comes to the White House.
Budapest explains this by the fact that each of the candidates for the post of US leader “defends opposite approaches to resolving the issue of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation”, so US allies in the EU should allegedly base their further steps on Ukraine in accordance with the results of the US elections.
Hungarian Finance Minister Mihaly Varga said that EU members should see which direction the White House will move on this issue after November 5, since there are “two ways to solve the problem”.
Recall that US presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized the Biden administration for helping Ukraine amid the devastating Hurricane Helene, which is raging in the States.
