Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources familiar with the situation, said that on Friday, November 15, The German Chancellor and the Russian leader will hold a telephone conversation for the first time in almost two years, the NBN publication reports.
Journalists write that the contact between Scholz and Putin will take place at a critical moment for Ukraine, as it is preparing for a third difficult winter, under constant attacks from Russian occupiers. In addition, there is growing uncertainty about the country's support from the West before Donald Trump's inauguration in January.
Recall that earlier the head of the German government expressed his readiness to talk with the Kremlin dictator about achieving peace in Ukraine at the “right time”. The politician stated the need to maintain diplomatic talks with the Russian Federation. In one of his last interviews, Scholz noted that dialogue with Putin will take place “soon”.
In turn, the Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov recently said that Berlin did not send the corresponding signals to Moscow, so preparations for the conversation between the Chancellor and the Russian leader are not being carried out.
