In an interview with the publication “Fakty”, the general noted that at this stage of the war, the priority for the Russians is to advance in Donbass, in particular towards Pokrovsk, as well as in the Kursk region, “NBN” reports.
At the same time, according to the leading researcher of the research institute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces will not be able to conduct a serious offensive operation in the Zaporizhzhya direction, the threat of which has been discussed for several weeks.
Muzhenko is convinced that the main task of the occupiers now is to break through to Pokrovsk and regain control over the Kursk region. The former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine believes that the fate of Zaporozhye and Sumy depends on the operation of the Defense Forces in the border region of the Russian Federation.
He explained that if the defenders had carried out a raid on the territory of the Russian region and quickly left, then Moscow would not have pulled additional forces there.
The former Chief of the General Staff noted that at the time of the beginning of the offensive of the Defense Forces in the Kursk region, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation did not have significant forces and means in the Sumy direction. However, now there can be no talk of the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the border region of Russia, because if the soldiers do this, the invaders will follow them.
The general claims that the transfer of hostilities to Ukrainian territory will put Sumy under serious threat. Muzhenko called this city “the key to Kharkov” and “opening the way to Poltava” for the enemy.
Earlier, the media learned why even successful attacks by the Russian Armed Forces infantry in Ukraine end in disaster.
