As NBN reports with reference to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian dictator Vladimir Putin seems to have finally decided that the Oreshnik ballistic missile is an innovative component of the so-called “non-nuclear deterrence.”
According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, a permanent reminder of the above-described type of deterrence implies simultaneous coercion of Western countries to make decisions that are beneficial to the Russian Federation, and also opens the door for Putin to move away from his failed threatening narrative, that is, predictable nuclear saber-rattling.
In addition, In recent days, Putin has been mentioning this ballistics too often, as he is striving to achieve several goals:
- provoking panic/fear against the backdrop of uncertainty about the damage that the Oreshnik can cause;
- increasing the level of pressure on Kyiv's allies to reinstate the ban on long-range strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against military targets in the Russian Federation using Western weapons.
Earlier, our information portal wrote that yesterday Putin proposed holding a “duel” in Kiev between all Western air defense systems and the Oreshnik.
