As reported by “NBN”, citing the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Kremlin continues to form a legal basis aimed at legalizing the Afghan Taliban and the Syrian Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

As it became known, on Saturday, December 28, Putin signed a law allowing local authorities to “cross out” such groups from the above list, which, in the opinion of the “Kremlin mouthpieces”, will contribute to the rapprochement of the aggressor country with the Taliban, thereby demonstrating Moscow's desire to “bring peace” to Afghanistan (at the same time opening new trade routes for the Russian Federation).

In addition, the directives of the Russian dictator create a legal a pretext for excluding other controversial organizations/groups from the blacklist, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham: these actions are being carried out as part of the Russian Federation's efforts to develop positive relations with the interim government of Syria (led by HTS leaders), as well as to provide guarantees regarding the extension of Putin's army's presence at Syrian military bases.

Earlier, we wrote that ISW analyzed Putin's statement about the Trump team's peace plan proposal.
