Austrian military historian, Colonel Markus Reisner wrote in an article for DW that the new offensive of the Ukrainian troops in the border region of the Russian Federation may be another attempt to show the 47th head of the United States Donald Trump and his team that it makes sense to continue supporting Kyiv, NBN reports.
In his opinion, it is too early to talk about an actual offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, since they have not used large formations and types of troops throughout the region to achieve their goal at the operational level. Now the Defense Forces have carried out an advanced counterattack with the participation of 3 brigades or their units.
Reisner believes that the goal of the new offensive by the Ukrainian army is to break out of the “bubble” of attacks by the Russian Armed Forces from three sides. Shashank Joshi, editor of the British publication The Economist, suggests that the defenders also want to put the occupiers on the defensive, preventing them from increasing their offensive actions.
Another possible goal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces operation is to seize additional Russian territories, which will become a bargaining chip before the negotiations.
At the same time, experts admit that the offensive in the Kursk region is a feint and the Defense Forces will deliver the main blow elsewhere. The Austrian military believes that surprises await the Ukrainian army before Trump's inauguration on January 20.
Earlier, analyst David Ax explained why the invaders are unable to displace Ukrainian troops from the Kursk region.
