Portnikov, speaking about Trump’s meeting with Putin, spoke about their expectations. According to him, the head of the Kremlin needs a meeting for the sake of a meeting, just as North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un once needed, the NBN publication writes.
In turn, as the analyst noted, the 47th US President would like to have productive communication with the Russian leader, after which it would be possible to announce the beginning of the process of ending hostilities.
At the same time, it is unknown what tools the newly elected head of the White House has to convince the Kremlin dictator to compromise on Ukraine, since there are no signs that Putin is ready to make concessions.
The journalist added that it is also unknown whether Trump is ready to provide our country with reliable security guarantees that would prevent the Russian Federation from resuming the war even after he leaves the presidency.
