In the context of the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, Pope Francis, at an evening prayer for the unification of Christians of all faiths (held the day before, January 25), announced the unexpected intention of the Roman Catholic Church.

As NBN reports with reference to the material of the Polska Agencja Prasowa (PAP) agency, the idea came to the pontiff due to the celebration of Easter in 2024 on the same day, both according to the Gregorian and Julian calendars – April 20.
In particular, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, preaching during the service outside the walls of the Roman Basilica of St. Paul, in the presence of delegations from various Christian denominations, said that, – “hope always remains,” and repeated an earlier call to all followers of the teachings of Jesus Christ about the need to take a decisive step toward unity on the topic of a “common date for Easter.”
Separately, Pope Francis added that high-ranking clerics of the Roman Catholic Church, and, judging by everything, he is one of them, are ready to “accept the date that everyone wants.”
