The candidate for Chancellor of Germany said that if he is elected to the post of head of government, he will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine, and a fair end to the war with the Russian Federation will be his strategic priority, NBN reports, citing the German publication Der Spiegel.
According to the leader of the CDU party, Ukraine must defeat the occupiers and be free to choose political and military alliances. At the same time, the terrorist state can no longer see any chances for successful military action, since the head of the Kremlin will be able to challenge NATO in a few years.
The politician did not comment on the controversy surrounding Germany's allocation of additional aid to Ukraine in the amount of 3 billion euros. At the same time, Merz called on allies not to look at Donald Trump, who criticizes Europeans for insufficient defense funding, but to do their “homework.”
