The Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in Kursk region has not ceased since August 2024 — the defenders entered this region of the aggressor country, seeking to prevent the intensification of the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces in Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

As NBN reports with reference to the Facebook profile of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this operation forced the Russian generals to redeploy significant resources to the Kursk region and request assistance from North Korea (Pyongyang sent 12,000 military personnel to the Russian Federation).
As it became known, the total losses of the North Korean contingent amounted to about 4,000 people: 1 brigade was actually destroyed, 2 lost their combat potential.
In addition, over the course of 6 months intensive fighting in the Kursk region, identical losses of the Russian-invading forces in manpower reached 39,900 people (16,100 were killed, 909 were taken prisoner, and the rest were wounded).
Also, thanks to the effective actions of the Defense Forces, Putin's army was missing in the Kursk region:
- 131 tanks;
- 689 combat armored vehicles;
- 398 artillery systems and MLRS;
- 12 air defense systems;
- 1 aircraft;
- 3 helicopters;
- 931 UAVs;
- 1 198 units of automobiles and special equipment.
